Carbon fibre structural reinforcements

The Pipe Recovery System (PRS) is a patented procedure that eliminates leaks, restoring plant safety without interrupting production.

Thanks to research, study of materials and experience gained in the laboratory and in the field, the PRS has become a reliable, safe and high-tech system.

The procedure consists of applying several layers of carbon-fibre and resin-based composite material in the undercut area. In this way, the designed mechanical characteristics of the component are restored. The procedure can be performed on any surface, flat or curved, of any size.

The layer thickness and type of composite are predefined according to the operating parameters of the component using a specially developed calculation programme. Thanks to the speed of execution, the component regains its characteristics within a few days without having to interrupt the implant, making PRS a highly effective solution.

BENEFITS

  • Increased service life

  • Restoration of plant efficiency

  • Savings due to fewer breakdowns and repairs while the system is running.

SURFACE PREPARATION

Preparation of the external surface of the pipeline section to be repaired by means of standard (SA 2 1/ 2) high-pressure sandblasting (after removal by grinding and/or sanding of any surface imperfections present or other suitable method for complete removal of oxides and paint residues) or by means of an equivalent, alternative surface preparation technique;

Degrease the outer surface of the pipe section to be repaired with solvent (methyl-ethyl-ketone).

Fill any violations present with conventional metal putty;

Application of two-component epoxy primer (XD 4510/ XD 4511) over the entire line section affected by the repair;

Application of a layer of 200 g/m2 glass fibre fabric,

Application of a layer of 200 g/m2 glass fibre fabric, acting as galvanic insulation between the metal substrate and the carbon fibres, impregnated with epoxy resin (ARALDITE LY 8615 / ARADUR 8615) extended over the section of pipe to be repaired up to 100 mm beyond the area to be reinforced with carbon fibres;

Application of a layer of 200 g/m2 glass fibre fabric,

Application of 300 g/m2 layers of bi-directional carbon fibre fabric (ATG RCS2/2.6-12/310/500 or equivalent) impregnated with epoxy resin (ARALDITE LY 8615/ ARADUR 8615), with a minimum 30 mm overlap in both circumferential and longitudinal directions, in accordance with the dimensions of the laminations and with the application of a layer of suitable epoxy paint to protect against atmospheric agents and, in particular, UV radiation.

Application of 300 g/m2 layers of bi-directional carbon fibre fabric
